Yolandia Scott Wins $1,000 Scholarship

Cedar Hill Shares Food Pantry is changing the look of its brand. In searching for a new logo, we reached out to Aaron Kennedy, graphics arts teacher at Cedar Hill High School. Students were challenged to create a new logo capturing the essence of Cedar Hill Shares.

After receiving over 200 entries, the logos were narrowed down to the top eight. The Cedar Hill Shares Board of Directors selected this logo created by Yolandia Scott.

To date, the Board has not finalized the vote on using the logo, but congratulated Yolandia on May 16, 2022 and presented her a big scholarship check for $1,000. In addition to the scholarship money, Yolandia was invited to visit the art studio of Bill and Anita Hall, to further investigate a possible career in art.  At that meeting, Yolandia received the actual prize money.

Yolandia moved to Cedar Hill from Irving in the seventh grade. She developed a passion for art when very young and enjoys being in AP Art Classes. She is also a member of the Jr ROTC program. Yolandia is a junior and still undecided about her career path. Joining the Air Force intrigues her, as well as pursuing a graphics arts career. She is also interested in the field of animation. Yolandia has spent her summers volunteering at the City Recreation Center in Irving, and will have a job there this summer (2022) where she enjoys working with the children.

The Cedar Hill Shares Board congratulates Yolandia and thanks her for the logo design.

Accompanied by her mother Crystal, Yolandia accepts the actual $1,000 prize check at the home/art studio of Board member Anita Hall. The visit to an art studio was the second part of Yolandia’s prize.
